This was mainly due to the fact that Hockey was the national sport of India at the time. However, things started to change in the 1950s when Cricket started to become increasingly popular in India. The cricket team’s success in the 1983 World Cup was a major factor in the rise of cricket and it quickly overtook Hockey in terms of popularity. This trend continued to the present day and now Cricket is the most popular sport in India. As far as the Indian Hockey Team’s chances are concerned in the Tokyo Olympics, all eyes are on them. The team has been performing well in recent competitions and it is hoped that they will be able to make a successful comeback in the Olympics. The team has a lot of potential and all that is needed is for them to believe in themselves and make the most of the opportunities that come their way.
